Surveillance footage captured an unfathomable winter morning crime that shook Wichita, Kansas and the country, leaving more questions than answers: Who would steal a statue of Jackie Robinson, the barrier-breaking hall of famer? The monument, installed at League 42 baseball fields, was founded for under-served city youth. The alleged thief would eventually plead guilty, but it was the efforts of a community that made Jackie’s return a reality earlier this month. NBC News’ Morgan Chesky speaks with leaders about the neighborhood, the local baseball league, and the importance of number 42.Aug. 20, 2024
